How to use this rescource:
Opening a Model
Selecting a trench opens the interactive model in a new browser tab. A stable internet connection is recommended, particularly during the initial loading process. Trackpads can be a bit jittery in the current version, a mouse is recommended.
Be sure to click inside the box to lock your cursor.
For the best experience, I recommend clicking on fullscreen.
Movement Controls
WASD or Arrow Keys: Move around the trench.
Mouse: Change the direction you are looking.
Space Bar: Jump.
F: Toggle between walking and drone modes.
ESC: Leave Fullscreen

Future Applications
Although still a relatively basic framework, I have now developed a reusable Unity template that allows me to quickly turn new photogrammetric models into interactive, walkable environments. This has potential applications beyond public engagement, particularly when writing up excavations. Being able to revisit trenches virtually makes it easier to examine features and understand their spatial relationships in ways that can be difficult to appreciate from conventional plans alone, especially for instances like govan where there are successive models of the trench.
Hosting the models online also makes them easy to share with colleagues and researchers, providing an accessible way to explore detailed 3D records without needing specialist software or transferring large datasets.
